Minutes of the May 12, 2010
New Jersey Computer Club General Meeting
The
regular second Wednesday monthly General Meeting of the New Jersey
Computer Club was held at the North Branch Reformed Church starting at
7:02 p.m. There were 16 members and one guest in attendance.
Random Access, answering computer questions was led by John Beck and Rich Byrne.Rich Byrne began the business portion of the meeting at 7:16 p.m. MOTION (Made, Seconded and Approved): A motion that the NJCC Minutes and Treasurer’s report, as posted on the Web, was approved.

Smith explained the history of the NJCC Scholarship Fund and made a plea
to the group that we continue to fund it.
MOTION (Made, Seconded and Approved): A motion that two scholarships be
awarded in 2010, $500 each to RVCC and UCC was approved.
A video was shown that explained the potential security risk of information stored on copy machines.
Rich Byrne continued the discussion of free and open source software. Rich looked at the practical uses of open source software in the everyday operation of our laptop and desktop computers. We saw several powerful word processing and spread sheet programs as well as database, drawing and presentation programs.
